Four Roses Small Batch Limited Edition is always one of the most eagerly anticipated bourbons of the fall release season. And for good reason. While the standard Small Batch offering is no slouch, the limited edition is a blend of significantly older stock meant to create a whiskey greater than the sum of its parts and show off the unique qualities of Four Rose’s various bourbon recipes. For 2021, that formula included 16-year-old OESV and OBSV, along with 14-year-old OBSQ and 12-year-old OESK. It’s another winning marriage for Master Distiller Brent Elliott that sings in the glass with notes of warm apple pie and chocolate chip cookies. The palate is bold with candied apple and caramelized sugar wrapped in a warming, peppery heat, while the finish is silky, slowly fading into brandied cherries and chocolate sauce. Worth the hunt and every penny of the price.
