George Dickel Bourbon

George Dickel’s latest addition to its permanent lineup may appear, on the surface, like just another extension of its portfolio. Look closer. While it is made with the distillery’s familiar 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley recipe, this whiskey is labeled not as Tennessee Whisky like every Dickel that’s come before, but “Bourbon.” According to Master Distiller Nicole Austin, the reason for that was purely a happy accident as she began discovering barrels that evoked more traditional bourbon notes than their classic Tennessee whisky profile. Bottled at a healthy 8-years-old and an approachable, but still potent, 90 proof, this is a bourbon meant to satisfy all your brown water needs, from easy neat sipping to cocktail-making and everything in between. The aroma is perfumed with classic notes of butterscotch, caramel candies, and vanilla bean that segue seamlessly to a palate of caramel corn and crème brûlée, sweet and oily and lingering with brown sugar into a softly warming finish.
