Virginia Distillery Co. Courage & Conviction Sherry Cask American Single Malt Whisky

Virginia Distillery Co.’s flagship offering, Courage & Conviction American Single Malt, is actually a blend of three different single malts, each aged in a different cask type: Bourbon, Sherry, and Cuvée. Earlier this year, the distillery expanded its portfolio by bottling each cask type as its own Courage & Conviction single malt, offering fans the unique opportunity to taste the individual elements in their extraordinary blend.

We’ve already highlighted the Cuvée Cask offering in this new lineup, a unique style of single malt maturation perfect for those who enjoy fruitier flavors in their whisky. For lovers of more classic single malt styles, look no further than Courage & Conviction Sherry Cask. This single malt is aged a minimum of three years exclusively in Spanish Sherry casks and carefully blended to highlight the nuance of each contributing barrel, from the delicate Fino, to nutty Oloroso and fruity Pedro Ximenez. The inaugural batches of every Courage & Conviction Cask release are dedicated to Nancy Fraley, a key mentor for Virginia Distillery Co. and world-renowned expert in spirits blending who helped guide the sensory analysis of the Courage & Conviction line.

Like Cuvée Cask, Sherry Cask is only three years old, but careful aging in the variable Virginia climate has done wonders for its maturity, showcasing a nose of apricot jam, lemon zest, and almond-filled granola and a lush palate of worn leather, roasted nuts, raw honey, and chewy toffee. The finish is generous and lingers with a dusting of baking spice. A classically styled single malt that rivals some of the best from across the pond.
