Zaddy’s – The Sessionable RTD Cocktails to Help Beat This Summer’s Heat

If the hot weather that touched down this past May is any indication, It’s going to be a long hot Summer, and we’re going to need lots of thirst quenching beverages to keep us going. But many times, the Ready-to-Drink (RTD) sector amps up the ABV in an attempt to attract consumers wanting more bang-for-the-buck in their canned cocktail selections. Is this a good thing? Sometimes, yes, but not always, as it limits the ability to “crush” drinks for an extended period – like when spending an afternoon at the pool, beach or wherever else one goes to cool off.

Sessionable drinks – those with a lower ABV that allow for “all-day” drinking –  have been around for awhile, mostly in the beer sector. But recently, a few forward thinking entrepreneurs in the spirits and cocktail world have jumped in the game, hoping to capitalize on our collective wish to not over-consume while enjoying a good drink. A great example is ZADDY’S, a new canned cocktail line out of California’s Sonoma County.

Zaddy’s sparkling, gin-based craft cocktails are revamped cult classics, brimming with flavor and light on the liver. They use only natural ingredients and locally distilled Gin for their lineup which include the following drinks:

  • Corpse Reviver – highlights include citrus notes mixed with fennel and nutmeg extract to create a complex flavor that’s the perfect “hair of the dog that bit you.” (Read: just plain delicious!)
  • Gin Sonic – a lighter, low-sugar take on the popular Gin & Tonic, made with only a splash of tonic and a refreshing hint of lime and mint. A delightful alternative to the classic G&T recipe.
  • Gin(ger) Fizz – pays homage to the classic Gin Fizz but has been brightened with ginger and honey for a rejuvenating finish.

Each 12-ounce can is only 100 calories, 4.5% ABV, gluten-free, and contains no more than 3 grams of organic cane sugar. Add that they use only recycled materials in their packaging and wrap their cans in perforated labels for easy removal, and you’ve got some pretty sustainable cocktails.

Available in 12 or 24-packs at and in retails stores throughout California.
