2026 Santé International Wine & Spirits Competition

Elevating the standard of excellence from the cellar to the cocktail shaker.

Drawing from the 30-year legacy of Santé Magazine, the 2026 Santé International Wine & Spirits Competition is designed for the modern hospitality professional. The campaign emphasizes “The Santé Standard”—a rigorous evaluation that bridges the gap between producer, plate, and glass.

Professional Judging: 30 Years of Authority

The 2026 competition is anchored by our hallmark: Judging by the Trade, for the Trade.

The Panel: Every entry is evaluated by an elite group of hospitality experts—restaurant owners, master sommeliers, and beverage directors—who understand the demands of a busy floor and a discerning guest.

The Heritage: Leveraging Santé’s 30-year history as the “Magazine for Restaurant Professionals,” we apply the same authoritative standards used to guide the industry since 1996.

Scoring Pillars: Quality & Uniqueness

Unlike competitions that focus solely on technical perfection, Santé rewards character. Each wine and spirit is awarded a numerical score based on two primary criteria:

  • Quality: Technical excellence, balance, and expression of terroir or distillation craft.
  • Uniqueness: The “X-Factor.” We look for products that stand out on a crowded backbar or wine list—those that offer a narrative and a distinct sensory profile.

Functional Evaluation: The “Service-Ready” Test

A gold medal from Santé means a product is ready for the menu. We evaluate performance where it matters most: in the hands of the hospitality professional.

For Wine: The Culinary Synergy

Every wine is judged on its Food Compatibility. Judges don’t just taste the wine in isolation; they evaluate its structure, acidity, and tannins against a range of flavor profiles to determine its versatility on a dining table.

  • Award Category Example: “Best Pairing Potential for Modern American Cuisine.”

For Spirits: Mixability & Drinkability

Spirits are assessed through the lens of a lead bartender.

  • Drinkability: How does the spirit perform neat or on a large cube for the “slow sip” enthusiast?
  • Utility: How does the spirit’s profile carry through in a classic cocktail? Does it provide the necessary backbone for a signature drink?

Entrant Benefits

Winning brands receive more than a medal; they receive Market Access:

  • Feature in Santé Magazine: Editorial coverage reaching over 200,000 enthusiasts and 85,000 restaurateurs.
  • Detailed Tasting Notes: Professional feedback on food pairings and cocktail utility to help your sales team pitch to on-premise buyers.
  • The “Santé Seal”: A digital badge for marketing that signals to every sommelier that your product is “Service-Ready.”
