Hospitality is Back!

Mother's Day gifts, 5 crafts Kentucky bourbons, and the passion of Greek cuisine

Ah, the joys of warmer weather, blossoming flowers, and spring optimism! The stock market is experiencing its most substantial surge in over 75 years, according to Barron’s. And according to the National Restaurant Association, restaurants are experiencing a new expansion phase. At Santé, we see consistent readership growth since January 1st of this year, proving the value of quality editorial. We published one new piece a day for 117 days since the beginning of 2021!

This month, we draw your attention to some innovations in the industry and highlight the work of some great restaurateurs and producers in the hospitality industry.

Cannabis-Infused Wine?

Penny Weiss, Santé wine editor, will be raising a glass to California-produced Cannabis-infused wine in The Wineknitter. As the prohibition of Cannabis products gets lifted throughout the country and the world, this is a category that deserves special attention. Penny interviews Alana Burstein, founder and president of Viv & Oak, a leader in this category. She delves into the technology and experience of Cannabis-infused wine and suggests some more exciting culinary pairings. Do Cannabis-infused wines deserve a spot on your wine rack?

Mother’s Day Wines from Women Winemakers

Who knows best what wines complement Mother’s Day? Women vintners share their expertise and top sparkling and white wines with food pairings in Deborah Grossman’s piece, Mother’s Day Wines from Women Vintners.

For The Dozen: Back Stories in the Bottle

Part of the fun in drinking wine is how it tastes and learning the wine’s back story. They all have one! It may be about the climate, the vines, or the way the grapes are grown. There is usually a fascinating family history and intrigue going back generations. With this Dozen Roger Morris pulls out a few bottles and tells you about how they made it into your glass.

Scott Turnbull Plays Sherlock Holmes

Ever wonder how some wine geeks can guess which wine he or she is tasting without ever seeing the bottle? Sommelier Scott Turnbull, who plays Sherlock to our Watson, Roger Morris, explains how it’s elementary that one deduction will lead to another until the wine is revealed.

Drew Beard, Santé spirits editor, has prepared a Mother’s Day Gifts for the Mom Who Needs a Drink. He will also be exploring five craft Kentucky bourbons to sip this spring and delve into mezcals for Distillations.

Stacey Sears’s Creative Cocktails series continues with Fresh Sips for Spring. Look for Rosé wine-based cocktails and a fine collection of cocktail recipes with gin, tequila, rum, and vodka.
