The Dozen This Month Wine

Perennial Roses

Unlike many rose gardens, our annuals flourish in the heat of the summer.

Rosé wines have a very long drinking season. They start popping up in some climates as early as Valentine’s Day and last well into the fall. The sparkling ones, especially the ones nurtured in the Champagne region, are also very popular during the winter holidays. We have a good selection here among the other varieties.

Nothing thorny here, so grab a glass and trade your pruning shears for a corkscrew.

2023 Darioush Napa Valley Viognier ($60). A fuller-bodied Viognier bound for the dinner table with some floral notes but mainly delicious green fruit flavors and a hint of lemon.

2023 Domaine Bousquet Tupungato Rosé ($13). Light and crisp with orange flavors, lean structure and good acidity.

NV Domaine Bousquet “Gaia” Gualtallary Pinot Noir Rosé ($18). Five words – light, crisp, ripe, strawberries, tangy.

2023 Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Valley Rosé of Pinot Noir ($20). Very refreshing with tart strawberry and tangy orange flavors.

2023 Ixsir “Grande Reserve” Lebanon Rosé ($36). A full-bodied blend of Rhone red varieties, it has good complex flavors of tart fruits – but it’s a bit fuller than most pink wines.

2022 Corvezzo Extra Dry Prosecco Rosé ($13). A bargain bubbly with lots of fizzy bubbles, wood strawberry flavors and a light body.

NV Domaine Bousquet Tupungato Sparkling Rosé ($13). Another bargain and a party wine – pleasant tart strawberry flavors, well-constructed with a crisp finish.

2018 Juve & Camp “Reserva de la Familia” Cava Brut Nature ($23). Lots of nice aging-cask notes, with apple and neutral fruit flavors and with medium intensity.

2022 Sapaio “Volpolo” Bolgheri ($36). Light flavors of cassis, dried nuts and dried fruits with dusty tannins.

2022 Ponzi Vineyards Laurelwood District Pinot Noir ($47). A leaner, less generous Oregon Pinot but with ripe cherry fruit and good freshness and acidity.

2021 Penner-Ash Willamette Valley Pinot Noir ($65). Very floral with firm yet generous flavors of ripe blackberries and a hint of vanilla at the finish.

Wildwood Spirits “Kur” Gin ($37). A very herbal, savory gin that is smooth, well-balanced, pleasant and easy drinking.

Prices listed are generally SRP or from wine-searcher.com. As more wineries are now shipping direct-to-consumer, check the winery website if you can’t find a bottle in your retail store.
