Rhum Barbancourt: Haiti’s Liquid Gold and Legacy in a Bottle

Rhum Barbancourt is a renowned Haitian rum celebrated worldwide for its exceptional quality and rich heritage. Founded in 1862 by Dupré Barbancourt, the brand has become a symbol of Haitian craftsmanship and resilience. Barbancourt stands out for its unique production process, which uses pure sugarcane juice (rather than molasses) and double distillation in the French cognac tradition, resulting in a rum of remarkable complexity and finesse.

Aged in French oak barrels, Barbancourt rums exhibit a distinctive character, with flavors ranging from vibrant tropical fruits and spices to rich notes of vanilla and caramel. Available in various age statements, such as the iconic 3 Star (4 years) and 5 Star (8 years), as well as the prestigious Reserve du Domaine (15 years), the brand caters to casual drinkers and connoisseurs alike.

Deeply intertwined with Haiti’s culture and history, Rhum Barbancourt is more than a beverage—it’s a testament to the nation’s artisanal legacy and its enduring spirit.

Rhum Barbancourt is currently led by Delphine Nathalie Gardère, the fifth generation of her family to oversee the distillery. Following the passing of her father, Thierry Gardère, in March 2017, Delphine assumed leadership of the company. In November 2020, she became the sole owner by acquiring 100% of the company’s shares.

Under her guidance, Rhum Barbancourt has focused on premium-ization, expanding distribution, and export growth, while maintaining its rich heritage and commitment to quality.
